Aaron Williams
My name is Aaron Williams, and I’m one of two SRE scripture teachers in Newcastle High. I’m 26 years old, have been living in Newcastle for about 9months, have a beautiful wife and 3 week old son. I’m a Christian and have been for about 12 years now, and have loved every moment, best decision i’ve ever made. My life wouldn’t be as fun, full, exciting, and purposeful as it is, if it wasn’t for what God’s done in my life.
Most of my time is taken up doing what i love most, which is getting alongside young people, helping them realise the God given potential within them, and then equipping them with the guidance and tools needed to fulfil that potential. A few effective ways i like to achieve the above in young people is by
1st) Running a cranking, fun, exciting youth program for high school age student on a Friday night at our church (Newcastle Christian Centre)
2nd) is through teaching SRE in what i hope is a fun, modern, and relevant curriculum.
Being not that much older than a lot of the young people i know and teach, i understand and can relate to most of the challenges and struggles that young people face and have to navigate in life. My heart & passion is through sharing my faith and my journey to give young people hope, direction and support to face those challenges and overcome them. When I’m not working and doing life with young people I’m eating, sleeping, speeding time with my family and friends or trying, but not succeeding to master the game of golf.
So that’s me in a nut shell and i look forward to having the opportunity to meet you at some point.
Merinda Handsaker

Merinda is our Primary SRE regional Coordinator.
What does your role in SRE involve?
I am employed part-time to encourage and support all those involved in the primary SRE programmes in our region. I am available to help with any conflict resolution, with cross-authorisation issues, and also just general resource and training help.
What do you enjoy about your role?
The wonderful Churches and Church Leaders we represent as a Board. I love the fact that, in our joint denominational SRE Programmes churches are required to work together so instead of thinking on what divides us, we focus on what unites us. I also love the inspiring SRE teaching resources which are available.
What do you find to be the greatest challenge?
Sometimes negotiations with schools regarding slotting SRE into the timetable and then fitting our SRE teachers into those time slots can be tough, and gathering all our SRE Teachers together in the one place at the one time.
Isaiah 54:13 “All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be your children’s peace.”
Scott Leith
Hi there, Scott Leith here, I am new to Newcastle High School, and teach SRE to year 7 and 8. I am enjoying the heritage at the school, and the warm environment that is there.
A little about myself…..
I am engaged! I get married on the 1st of May! Which is really exciting! I can’t wait until that day, I am engaged to a beautiful girl Natalie. She is amazing!
I love to play sports, Tennis is my favourite, I grew up playing tennis and play in a comp. on Monday nights! It is great. I also love walking and swimming at the beach. It is relaxing!
My favourite food is Chicken Schnitzel, with chips and salad! It is by far the best meal to have when going out.
I also have another job, I am the Pastor and Youth Pastor at Globe Church Broadmeadow, so I run the church and the teenage youth programs, I love my job! We meet in the Hunter Theatre @ Hunter School of Performing Arts each Sunday mornings. My team and I run a youth program every Friday night from 6:30-8pm at Waratah, We do a range of different activities from crazy games, bands, movie nights, sports, beach nights, chill zones etc. I love that my job is something that I love to do!
I also teach SRE at Lambton High School as well.
I am loving being a part of Newcastle High School, and am looking forward to teaching my students about Christianity! I believe that one of the best ways for me to live my life is for God! I love seeing young people come to a realization that Christianity is not about Religion…rules and regulations…but it is about a Relationship with God. That is one of the reasons why I do what I do, so people can understand that.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Margaret Livingstone

Hello. It’s Mrs Livo and I’m the Chaplain here at Newey High. I love that I get to help care for the BIG family here at NHS. Come to think of it, family means a lot to me. My own grown family is about to become 25! Mr Livo and myself are waiting for 3 more grandies due in the next couple of weeks. I love to play and have fun. The beach is my most favourite place to be. I’m there every morning to see the sun come up and to walk on the sand. Awesome! My faith is very important to me. I find it strengthening. My work here at Newey is the same as in my family and my church family.
I get to be with people wherever they are at; to listen, to laugh, to be sad, to encourage, to wonder, to help guide. It’s really all about family. And I love that!
Just to tidy up the site.
you have Scott Leith’s first two lines of intro tacked onto the bottom of Aaron Williams intro.
